What is Cialis?

Cialis is an erectile dysfunction medication approved by the FDA for treating male impotence caused by physiological factors. Cialis makes part of the drug class called PDE-5 inhibitors. It is by far amongst the most popular medications used for this purpose.

How does Cialis help beat ED?

Cialis has quite a simple mechanism of action behind it. In most cases erectile dysfunction is caused by certain physiological factors that affect the body's ability to direct blood flows into the penis upon sexual excitement, which results in a strong and durable erection. Cialis removes this obstacle by intensifying the blood flow into the penile area when the person gets aroused thus helping with erections even if there are factors seriously affecting the blood flow in this part of the body. Numerous studies have confirmed that this mechanism of action is very effective in cases of diabetes, heart issues, hypertension, high cholesterol levels, prostate problems and other health conditions that usually affect erectile functions.

Are there any things I should know before using Cialis?

As in the case of other PDE-5 inhibitors, Cialis should never be used in conjunction with any drugs containing nitrates (usually prescribed for hypertension and chest pain). Mixing these two kinds of drugs will lead to a drastic drop in blood pressure that can have serious consequences. Street drugs known as "poppers" are also based on nitrates, so keep this in mind when using Cialis. If your health condition requires you to use these drugs – consult with your physician in order to work out a safe schedule of using both Cialis and nitrate-based medications.

Certain health conditions require the dosage of Cialis to be reviewed and sometimes additional tests are needed. So make sure to inform your doctor if you have any of the following:
  • heart problems or associated conditions
  • recent heart attacks, strokes or heart failure
  • angina, blood pressure problems
  • liver or kidney problems
  • blood cell or bleeding disorders
  • a stomach ulcer;
  • specific eye conditions
  • abnormal penis shape
  • medical recommendations concerning sexual activity in general

Cialis side effects

Like any medication, Cialis has potential side effects that may occur during its use. Pay attention to the following symptoms as they are classified as serious side effects and require you to contact your doctor immediately:

  • strange heartbeat
